Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC)
Every person deserves a way to communicate, be heard, and be understood. For some, that means using pictures, gestures, and/or technology to share their thoughts, wants, and ideas. We partner closely with families to explore AAC systems that best fits their child's unique strengths and needs. We encourage a total communication approach to teach strategies that make communication meaningful, functional, and empowering. Our goal is always the same: to help every individual become a confident, independent communicator.
What You Might Notice
Here are some common signs that your child might benefit from exploring AAC options
Your child has a lot to say, but it’s hard for them to get their message across using only words, gestures, or signs
Traditional speech therapy focused on verbal speech has helped, but progress has been slow or limited
Your child has a significant challenge pronouncing words or imitating sounds, making it difficult for others to understand them
They’ve used manual signs or paper-based icons successfully in the past, but those tools no longer fully meet their needs
You sense your child is ready for a more robust way to communicate, so they can fully share their thoughts, preferences, and personality

We’ll review your child’s previous speech therapy experiences to learn what approaches have worked well so we can build on past progress in an effective way
Early sessions focus on building rapport and trust while exploring a range of AAC options
We work closely with insurance providers and local agencies to help secure funding for an AAC device if it’s determined to be appropriate for your child
Therapy is playful, functional, and centered around your child's interests to teach your child and family how to use AAC tools in real-life moments
Families receive ongoing coaching and support, ensuring communication continues to grow with your child
We celebrate every success, as your child’s voice becomes more powerful, intentional, and understood
